I have been wanting to try this project for a while now. I think it can be addictive. I can only imagine the colors and tools that this can evolve to.
A Blank Canvas
I went to Walmart and got my canvas, they have various sizes. I purchased a white compound mixture from Lowes that had a little polymer clay in it. I mixed water with about 2 cups of joint compound in a plastic bowl until I got a semi thick consistency. I kept adding the compound until the mixture thickened. It reminded me of pancake batter. You might want to wear a mask while pouring.
This is absolutely the best part because sky is the limit.
I had paints at home already, I use regular puffy style paint and spray paint from Michaels. It’s best to put the color on after designing with the compound.
There are a couple of websites I found on Pinterest on how to make your own glitter and paint. You know that’s on my Pinterest Re do list. I liked the spray paint because it seemed to absorb better, however there is no control. You can also try separate mixtures of colors as well for more color technique. I had a few things in my craft boxes, clear beads and scrapbooking butterflies that you can get from the Dollar store.
I have a room with purple and teal bedding with charcoal walls.
Can you imagine all the fun you can have? Old earrings? Glitters, marbles, whatever you want. I used hot glue on the top to add more texture and dimension. You can even add things after it dries. The thicker the mixture, the more items you can press into it. But be warned if the mixture is too thick, it will peel and crack right off that canvas when it dries.
It wasn’t hard at all.
